I had the pleasure of attending an AWS User Group meetup centered on Amazon Q, and it was an exciting, interactive experience! The event attracted a vibrant mix of AWS enthusiasts, from seasoned professionals integrating AWS into their daily workflows to aspiring engineers and individuals preparing for AWS certifications. The energy in the room was fantastic, and it was inspiring to connect with people who share a common passion for cloud innovation.

The Challenge: 45-Minute App Building with Amazon Q
The highlight of the meetup was the hands-on challenge: we had 45 minutes to create an app using Amazon Q. My idea was to build an app that analyzes a person’s mood based on an uploaded photo and suggests a relevant Spotify playlist based on the detected emotions. Guess what, I didn’t finish in time.
Insightful Presentations and a Community Spirit
After the building session, we moved on to presentations, where each member showcased their app ideas. This was an interactive and enlightening process; we voted on the best presentation, discussed each presenter’s approach, and shared constructive feedback. Observing others’ work broadened my perspective on Amazon Q’s potential and underscored the tool's versatility in solving real-world problems. The winning app was a fingerprint analysis tool, which showcased just how powerful and flexible Amazon Q can be in terms of functionality. I took some ideas from the presentations too mainly the ways of writing my prompts.
Side note : I was still trying to finish up my project even though time was up, I wanted to showcase my work, but unfortunately, I didn't finish mainly because the session was interactive and fun so much that focus was on the presenters. “Finally i accepted my fate” .
A Memorable Community Gathering
Beyond the tech, the event was also a fantastic networking opportunity. We enjoyed great food, AWS swag (who doesn’t love a good sticker and t-shirt?), and the warm atmosphere of a growing community united by shared curiosity and excitement for cloud technologies.
I’m truly grateful for this event and am thrilled to see the AWS community continue to expand. Looking forward to the next one!
